The Sacred Sauna

My work is deeply inspired by the sauna tradition of my Finnish ancestors. Historically the sauna was not merely for bathing; it was a revered liminal space—a portal between worlds for healing, spiritual cleansing, and rebirth.It was a ritual space of holistic well-being, where the löyly (the steam) carried prayers to the spirits, ailments were transferred to the stones, and the after-silence held profound clarity.As someone of 98% Finnish ancestry, my journey has been one of remembering these wisdoms first and foremost, and then reweaving the remembrance into the modern world.I draw from this ancient wisdom to offer the Sauna as a Metaphor and Ritual Container: a safe space to intentionally commune with the web of life, release what no longer serves, and emerge—clarified, grounded, and empowered to serve from a place of deep resilience.
